Denver now has a 1 game lead.
The win moved Denver (48-31) a full game ahead of the Warriors in the race for eighth place in the West with only three games remaining. The Nuggets also control the tiebreaker, meaning they can clinch their fifth straight playoff berth by winning two of their final three games.
Golden State (47-32) probably will need to win its final three games and hope Denver loses twice to avoid the distinction of being the winningest team ever to miss the NBA playoffs. Houston won 45 games in 2000-01.

2. x-San Antonio 2.0
3. x-LA Lakers 2.0
4. y-Utah 3.0
5. x-Houston 2.0
6. x-Phoenix 2.5
7. Dallas 6.0
8. Denver 8.0
9. Golden State 8.0
With 3 games to go
Denver is at Utah (probably a loss), home against the Rockets (?), and home against the Memphis Grizzlies (probably a victory).
Golden State is home against the Clippers (probably a win), on the road against the Suns (probably a loss), and home against the Supersonics (probably a win).
Unfortunately for the Warriors, Denver has the tie breaker, which means they must win that road game in Phoenix. Phoenix is still trying to fit in Shaq for the playoffs, so they will not be letting up or resting.
The early results point to Denver making the playoffs.
NBA Basketball special comment The Western Conference is so tight from top to bottom, that a team like Denver can do damage in the playoffs.
