Raptors Acquire Delfino From Pistons

by Angelo on June 17th, 2007

Just like last off-season, Toronto Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo didn’t wait long to make a deal to improve the team. The Raptors acquired Argentinean swing man Carlos Delfino from the Detroit Pistons at the cost of 2nd round picks in 2009 and 2010.

“Carlos is a talented basketball player that should thrive in our system,” Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo said. “Like many international players that come to the league, he has much more professional experience than his NBA resume suggests.”

The addition of Delfino not only gives the team more international flavor, it also gives them a solid swingman they might very well need coming into next season. Delfino is a hard worker and has enough skill to be a versatile scorer and passer. With Morris Peterson becoming a free agent and Joey Graham having a pretty disappointing season, Delfino is a more than welcome addition. I believe that if he is given more time to play than what he got as a member of the Pistons, he can be a very productive player and he might even get his big break with the Raptors.

In any case this is a low risk deal since we know Delfino is a solid player as a reserve at least and if it doesn’t work out for him in Toronto, it will only cost them two 2nd round picks.
