Source: Grizzlies Acquire Rights To Gasol’s Buddy From Wizards
The Pau Gasol trade rumors have died down after last season’s trade deadline and it seems that it will stay that way for a long time. I’m talking about the coming of Juan Carlos Navarro of FC Barcelona who is regarded as one of the nest shooters in the Euroleague and was drafted by the Washington Wizards in the second round of the ‘02 draft. He is also one of Pau Gasol’s best friends who played with him in the Spanish national team.
The Navarro deal is long from being done but ESPN reported on its website Saturday that league sources said the Washington Wizards agreed to trade the rights of the FC Barcelona guard in exchange for a 2008 first round pick.
Once Memphis gets the rights, it will still have to negotiate with Barcelona so Navarro can play in the NBA. Reports suggest that it will cost nearly $3 million for his services which the Grizzlies can only pay $500,000 of it.
I don’t see any problem arising with Navarro’s contract so I’m very sure he’s be in a Grizzlies uniform when the season starts. Navarro should be so happy to finally have the chance to play in the NBA and with his buddy too. Navarro will be a good addition to the young talent the team has like Hakim Warrick, Darko Milicic, Kyle Lowry, Rudy Gay, and Mike Conley Jr. to go with Damon Stoudamire, Mike Miller and Pau Gasol. But more importantly, Navarro will be there to keep their star Pau Gasol happy.
