The Barkley Award goes to…..
Barkley Award? Well it’s the MVP award but it’s not what you think. This stands for Most Visible Problem.
in honor of a guy who once got angry during an NBA game and spit out in disgust, only to watch in horror as his loogie landed on a little girl sitting courtside.
First of all I’m not all too keen on naming this shameful award after Sir Charles. Yes he was problematic but it was mostly caused by being too vocal. He was still a hard worker and he never really meant to hurt anyone. The Most Visible Problem award is a sign of mediocrity, immaturity, and is a disgrace to what the league stands for. Charles was none of those things.
But off to the purpose of discussion, the Barkley went to a whole franchise! The New York Knicks! If you’ve read my previous posts, then you’d come to the conclusion that I whole heartedly agree. The most expensive team is composed of a very expensive coach who doesn’t know who to handle a “star studded” team who don’t know how to play together, ending up being the worst team ever assembled in franchise history. That’s the most visible problem alright.

While the award refers to Sir Charles’ wild period…it is also true that once he buckled down to work, first under the tutelage of Moses Malone (I think), he developed into the fine overall player he ultimately is remembered for. Hard charging, aggressive, tough rebounder, but never unselfish. This is why he, Karl M, and a few others who dont have NBA rings are still among the greatest ever.
Pity, such an ignominious award has to remind everyone of his baaaaad days

I totally agree with Sir Charles, but I don’t think its totally coach Brown’s fault its the players and the GM - Isiah Thomas, I think he should be fired for making all those ludacrous trades and deals. As a New Yorker and fan of the Knicks I am embarrassed to see how the Knicks played this season
